A number of DevSummit participants attended Calls For Change, a one-day miniconference bridging innovative telephony applications and social change that took place on February 27th at the San Francisco Airport Marriott.
A series of talks and workshops targeting Activists, Advocacy, Fundraisers, and Organizers were held by Technical Innovators who have been successfully using telephone networks as a powerful tool for social change. A wide breadth of tools was covered, from traditional membership communication, Get Out The Vote, and call centers, to more recent tools and technologies such as Web 2.0 applications, VoIP, polling, and SMS.
The community was invited to brainstorm, discuss needs of advocacy organizations, and share skills in building out these systems. Complete information can be found at http://www.callsforchange.org
Project participants, wiki users, collaborative tools developers, communities builders, collaboration practionners, digital artists, student and researchers working on these projects were also welcome to participate in Rococo / RecentChangesCamp, in Montreal, Canada, from may 18th to 20th.
